05 Aug 5 Fantastic Food Destinations you must visit in NYC
What do I mean by food destination? NYC itself is a food destination but what I’m talking about is the type of place that you go to that is all under one roof and the food there has you coming back for more and more. Call it a food court, food hall, marketplace, whatever you like, I believe that NYC has some of the best food destinations than anywhere else in the world. Each one of these locations has been a memorable food experience for me time and time again. Why? Because they offer the best of the best food all in one location, under the one roof, offering not only convenience but variety. The true standout though is the quality and the passion that goes into the food. You won’t find anything mediocre here. In no order of preference here are my favourite NYC food destinations:
1. THE CHELSEA MARKET
This place is the birthplace of the Oreo Cookie and is now a foodie wonderland from sweet treats and snacks to the best of the best lunch and dinner options, you’ll never leave here hungry. Located in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan this market is a neighbourhood market with a global perspective. The best way to taste this food paradise and learn about the history of the market is to book the Chelsea Market Food & Culture Walking Tour with Foods of New York Tours here www.foodsofny.com which includes 8 different tastings around the market.
2. THE PLAZA HOTEL FOOD HALL
Enter the grand doors to this fancy hotel and make your way down the stairs to a hidden foodie oasis full of gourmet vendors including Billy’s Bakery and Luke’s Lobster to the European inspired Todd English Food Hall consisting of nine diverse food stations such as Pasta Bar, Sushi Bar and Oyster Bar just to name a few. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner you can eat in or gather your gourmet goodies and walk across to Central Park for the best picnic you’ve ever had. Make sure you get some of the famous black and white cookies from William Greenberg Desserts.
3. EATALY FLATIRON
This foodie destination is an Italian grocery store that also offers several dining options with food from all the regions of Italy under the one roof.
Book ahead and do the Walking Tour of Eataly New York food tour here www.eataly.com .On this tour you will get the opportunity to explore each department, learn Eataly’s best kept secrets and get delicious tastings along the way such as pizza, gelato and chocolate just to name a few. It’s the best way to discover the history, culture, passion and quality that goes into every type of food on offer at Eataly. Make sure you try a Nutella latte or freshly made crepe at the Nutella Bar.
4. HUDSON EATS
Located in Downtown Manhattan in Brookfield Place, Hudson Eats is one fancy, large and modern food destination offering views of the Hudson River and Statue of Liberty while you dine from either inside or outside. Hudson Eats consists of 14 different and popular Chef driven casual eateries including Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar and Umami Burger offering something for everyone. Whatever you decide to eat here for breakfast, lunch or dinner make sure you also get yourself a delicious cupcake or two for dessert from Sprinkles cupcakes.
5. CITY KITCHEN
Located in Times Square this food destination is a foodie oasis amongst the bright lights of midtown Manhattan bringing together some of the City’s best dishes from Brooklyn to the Upper West Side all in the one convenient place. Dough is the highlight here, offering huge brioche-type fresh doughnuts in flavours such as Lemon poppy and my favourite Hibiscus. For something different try the breakfast tacos at Gabriela’s Taqueria. The location also makes it a perfect option for grabbing a quick bite to eat for lunch or dinner before seeing one of the many Broadway shows on offer in Times Square.
