24 Sep BREAKFAST ALL DAY
So who doesn’t love breakfast?! Breakfast is so good that Brunch was created just to keep this breakfast thing going on for longer. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll already know that I’m completely obsessed and head over heels in love with breakfast. If I go into a café and they don’t have an all-day breakfast menu then I’m out of there! Breakfast sets me up for the day and along with a really good coffee I can take on the world. What takes having breakfast at a café to another level for me is the ‘Breakfast board’. A delicious carefully thought out selection of small tastes. Realising that this is what my breakfast dreams are made of I set me the challenge to find the best of these around Melbourne. At times I was very impressed by what I found however there were a few disappointments. Two cafes on my list had changed their menu’s taking the Breakfast board away without changing the menu details online! Very naughty indeed… Needless to say I left the café not long after I arrived! This is my top 5 in order of preference:
Rustica Sourdough (402 Brunswick st, Fitzroy)
I went back again for this one! They have since made adjustments to it which I haven’t tried yet. I loved everything on this board especially the option of adding a pressed juice in place of the orange juice. The muesli was super crunchy and tasty. All items made it a perfect sweet and savoury selection. I could have licked the board clean. A visit here is never complete without a box of pastries to go.
Tall Timber (60 commercial road, Prahran)
This is one that I want to go back for. The highlight of this board is the perfect combination of hummus and the pumpkin loaf with the poached egg. You can order a pressed juice but the board also comes with fresh orange juice which was really nice also. With spring upon us and summer soon to follow grab yourself a table in the outside courtyard or street seating.
Sardi (111 Church st, Hawthorn)
Once again this café has changed their selection on their breakfast board which means I need to return here…all in the name of research! If my past visit was anything to go by the new menu featuring banana bread and egg and bacon slider will be a winner for me. Sorry to tease you with this picture of what I ate. They also have some delicious looking muffins on offer that I’m yet to try. The place is small so pick an off peak time to go and enjoy the cool tunes.
Bowery to Williamsburg (16 Oliver Lane, Melbourne)
This place is awesome…they have 2 breakfast boards on their Brunch menu, one is sweet and one is savoury. Being a sweet tooth I went for the sweet board which includes a 5 & dime bagel of your choice, cream cheese of your choice (I went for lemon cream cheese) and granola with yoghurt and berries. If my voting was on location alone then this one would be the overall winner. It has a New York underground vibe that totally makes me feel like I’m eating breakfast in the ‘greatest city’ in the world as opposed to the ‘most liveable’ city, Melbourne.
Legacy Camberwell (347 Camberwell Road, Camberwell)
Someone had to come last, but by no means is this, a bad breakfast board. It still made my top 5. This is a health conscious café so this is reflected in their breakfast board with acai bowl, smashed avocado, poached egg and a mini croissant as a little sweet treat. I’ll be back here to try one of their superfood smoothies as I’ve been told they are really good. Also they make their own donuts here, including flavours such as Nutella and peanut butter with jelly.
If you know of any breakfast boards I should try please let me know by leaving a comment below. If you are one of the few people who aren’t into breakfast then good on you for taking the time to read this! I hope I have convinced you to try eating and enjoying the best meal of the day!
