14 Sep My New York
Welcome
As New York was the inspiration for my blog it’s only fitting that my first post be the topic of it. After returning from my most recent visit to New York I was inspired and compelled to finally start blogging! After years of sharing my travel gems with family and friends I realised that I needed to (like my life depended on it) shout it from the roof tops that ‘I Love New York!’ …I’m obsessed! And as though ‘the city’ was speaking to me itself, I heard the words ‘it’s time’, so here begins the journey for us all. Hope you feel inspired to travel, see the world and eat amazing food no matter where you are…
My New York
I wasn’t born there, I’ve never lived there, but somehow it’s mine.
I still remember flying into New York for the first time. It was early evening and the sun had already set. It was December 2010 and only days away from Christmas. Looking out through the window on the plane I could see a sea of lights below me almost as though they were welcoming me in. Houses adorned with colourful lights that were sparkling and flashing all decorated for the Christmas season. A feeling of awe and anticipation came over me and at that point I knew I was going to fall in love with this city. It’s my first memory of New York and one that I will never forget.
I’ve returned to ‘the city’ every year since then. Every time has been special and each trip with its own memories and experiences. I think about each trip often and I think about ‘the city’ daily.
Travelling has a way of changing you and New York City has done that to me in so many ways. I know that I’m a better person for having been there. I always feel challenged, inspired and more confident after each visit. Why? Because it’s the greatest city in the world, it’s crazy, it’s busy and it’s fast but it knows what it wants and its wants the best of you. There is a heartbeat to this City that draws you in demanding you to walk at its rapid pace and I love it. It’s one of the things I miss the most. It can be tough and confronting at times and after a long tiring day I’ve been known to shed a tear or two. No other place I’ve been makes me feel this way. I guess it’s because I have a love and respect for this city. It has its own rules and I want to follow each one. New York will always have a piece of my heart. I will always return, I can never say goodbye.
I hope that you have enjoyed my tribute to the city that has given me so many wonderful memories, the city that I’ll always and forever feel connected too, the city that is My New York.
Until next time… keep living the dream X
